What we know so far about Destiny 2, the beta and game editions

Story: According to the official game description, "Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion." Guardians have been stripped of their powers and forced to flee.

Does this mean we've lost our supers? That is uncertain but quite likely. What we do know is, all our loot we spent hours upon hours gathering has been destroyed. In Destiny 2, we will venture out into new worlds, discover new combat abilities and earn sweet loot.

Trailers: The first teaser was shown on Tuesday 28th March and gave us a small insight into Destiny 2's story. The teaser shows our old friend, Cayde, having a drink in a bar while he tells the story of the attack to the sweeper bot.

The first trailer was shown on Thursday 30th March and gave us some more details of the story. The Trailer shows both Cayde and Commander Zavala giving a talk to the remaining survivors in the burning wreckage of The last city.

Gameplay:

Gameplay has yet to be shown but Bungie has announced a gameplay reveal on May 18th. The time has yet to be confirmed but it will likely be around 10am Pacific (6pm BST/7pm CEST). Make sure you stick this in your calendar somewhere as you don't want to miss this.

The beta

Bungie has confirmed there will be a public beta for Destiny but players who pre-order will have the chance to take part before the public. The exact date of the beta and early access has yet to be confirmed but Bungie mentioned it will be in the summer time so that could be June/July.

As soon as we know more details, we'll let you know.

Destiny 2 Game editions

As of March 30th, Destiny 2 is available to pre-order on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and for the first time, PC. Destiny 2 will be available in 5 different editions, each of them are described below.

Standard

The standard edition is just the game, nothing else. However, some retailers are giving away a Cayde figurine when you pre-order so make sure ask before you walk away.

Digital Deluxe Edition:

The Destiny 2 Digital Deluxe Edition includes the following:

  • Destiny 2 Expansion Pass: Gives you access to both Expansion I and Expansion II, offering brand new story missions, cooperative activities, competitive multiplayer, and a wealth of new weapons, armor, and gear.

    Limited Edition (Physical only):

    The Destiny 2 limited edition contains the following goodies:

    Collectors Edition: The Collectors Edition is the most expensive of all editions but worth it if you enjoy all the extras a video game has to offer.
