Teaser content for Destiny 2 has begun to flow like Vex milk over a waterfall on Nessus. Thanks to a new Destiny 2 trailer, we’ve officially been introduced to Suraya Hawthorne. We first learned of Hawthorne from the collector’s edition that included a messenger style bag with this associated lore:

Born in the City, Hawthorne left as a teen to seek a life of freedom in the wilderness outside the safety of our walls. She has survived for years outside of Guardians’ protection, and has come to learn her true purpose: To provide shelter to humanity by helping them not only survive, but lead a better way of life. This is a frontier bag, as worn by Hawthorne. In it, you will find tools and a place to store the valuable equipment you uncover on your own adventures.

When we meet Hawthorne she points out that she and her fellow freedom fighters have learned to live without the light. As luck would have it, that’s exactly what we now need to learn to do ourselves as Ghaul has stripped us of the light we have so heavily relied on for our own survival.

We now know Hawthorne’s ongoing role will be to serve as Clan Steward for the new clan system within Destiny 2. Clans will be playing a much larger role as completed activities will level up your clan and unlock the following rewards.

Clan Rewards and perks:

  • Gain additional glimmer when looting engrams
  • Increases public event rewards
  • Improves rewards from eliminating Cabal enemies
  • Increases the chance of receiving reputation tokens when completing Nightfalls, Raids, and Trials.
  • Increases chance of receiving an engram when completing playlist activities with a clan member

It’s mentioned that these rewards are per season. It's unclear at this time how long a season is or what measure of time is used to define a season.

If you’re not currently in a clan, you’ll definitely want to find one in order to tap into the rewards.

You can begin searching for clans now or use the new guided games feature when Destiny 2 launches to play with a variety of different clans and choose the one that’s best suited for you.
