Destiny 2 - Pre-Order Bonus Details

Some of us long-time gamers may recall the excitement of entering our favorite gaming store with a fistful of cash, full of anticipation waiting to get our hands on that game we’ve waited for what seemed like an eternity to buy. We would b-line it to the shelf our game should be on only to find the “Out of Stock” sign in the place where our holy grail should be. Now dejected, we watched our plans of gaming all day get flushed down the toilet along with all of our hopes and dreams. We were left standing, wallowing in our own misery wishing we had pre-ordered.

In the pre-digital days, pre-orders were an important metric as they gave developers an indication of the level of interest in a game which in turn drove production rates of hard copies to ship to retailers. No one wanted to repeat Atari’s failure, the massive production of a bad game (E.T.) that ultimately ended with millions and millions of cartridges being dumped in landfills.

Thankfully, those days are long behind us as digital downloads came to the rescue. So why is there still a pre-order push? Gauging demand is and always will be an important indicator for software developers. Bungie and Activision have clearly invested heavily in Destiny 2 and early indicators, like pre-orders and beta participants, help validate those investments. From a financial standpoint, pre-orders increase immediate cash flow and can help attract even more investors. From a marketing and sales standpoint, high pre-orders can be advertised creating more hype which leads to even more sales, creating a snowball effect.

With the fear of the “Out of Stock” incentive removed, the incentive to pre-order now comes in the form of bonus items. Destiny 2 has some pretty cool items for those willing to pre-order. If you pre-order the Standard Edition, Game + Expansion Pack Bundle, or the Deluxe Editions you’ll receive the following bonuses.

For those that don’t pre-order the game you’ll have the chance to get your hands on these items through normal gameplay starting December 5th, 2017.

I for one, can’t wait to wield the Coldheart Trace Rifle, call myself “Captain Cold” and let that single beam fly, and if I’m lucky I’ll hit something in the process.
