Community Artist Spotlight Featuring COSMICraven
Our community has many talented and skilled Guardians in it, some of those Guardians are artists. Each week we will showcase some works of art created by one of our very talented artists in the Destiny community. This week, our spotlight goes out to a Guardian that has captured the eyes and hearts of many Guardians in the community with her beautiful art pieces she creates. COSMICraven has been playing Destiny since the Destiny 1 Beta, mainly a Warlock and has fallen in love with the world and community Bungie has created in Destiny. She has been dabbling in art since her childhood but got more serious about creating and art in high school because she wanted her career choice to involve art. The pieces COSMICraven creates have so much life in them, capturing the lights and shadows perfectly in each piece down to the detail of the subjects in the pieces themselves. I asked COSMICraven what her favorite choice of medium is when she is creating pieces, and what kind of music does she listen to while working on a piece or who's stream does she tune into while working, she replied saying "Oh that’s a tough one. I do love working digitally because there’s a lot more tricks and effects I can pull off. Although, I really enjoy working with inks because I love the strong black and white contrast. I tend to listen to chill mixes or EDM while I work. The music affects the theme and tone of the piece, so a good example is Astropilot. When I work on space pieces or anything dealing with science fiction, Astropilot really takes me to the stars".
COSMICraven is truly a talented artist with everything she creates, as she works on creating a piece she will share progress images of the development of each piece as she creates them, adding an inside look as well as including everyone as she brings her art to life. Asking COSMICraven who inspired her to create Destiny fan art to share with everyone in the community she replied joyfully saying "That would be DrAssenov. I found her destiny fanart on DeviantArt back in 2014. Her style, colors, and compositions continue to blow me away to this day. She is one of my many inspirations and my greatest friend. She’s my Shia Labeouf, always screaming do it and pushing me to finish my art pieces. If someone isn’t following her I say they’re missing out". I also asked what her favorite part of the Destiny community to her was, COSMICraven responded saying " My favorite part of the destiny community is meeting the creative side, fellow artists and writers. Seeing others’ styles and interpretations of the game is very inspiring. I also enjoy talking to the writers and exchanging information about our guardians. We think about their past lives, who they are today, what do they think of the Traveler, how to they cope with the friends and families they’ve lost, pretty much everything. Currently my warlock Raven has six pages containing her bio, custom powers and abilities, relationships, fears, accomplishments, etc. I’m still working on it to this day". It's amazing and exciting the level of depth COSMICraven has given her Guardian in Destiny, taking her creativity and passion to the next level not only in her art but in her character as well. Creating such indepth details of her Guardian "Raven" its as if she is apart of the lore and backstory of the universe of Destiny. COSMICraven has also incorporated stories and emotion to some of her pieces that is unseen in alot of Destiny fan art that it sets her work to another level of depth than others. I asked COSMICraven what inspired her to create pieces where Guardians are in an embrace and show emotion as well as the back stories in the pieces themselves, she replied " Oh yes there’s a story to any piece! I want to show a more human side to the characters of destiny as well as the guardians. Even warriors of light have feelings, ambitions, fears, and hopes. Hugs can mean anything, they can be comforting, relief, out of love, or admiration. My favorite pieces I work on concern my warlock Raven and Prince Uldren Sov. I’ll summarize my interpretation of the game as best as I can, Raven was originally from the Reef before becoming a guardian and he was her lover. Her death and sudden guardianship causes severe grief to the Reef Prince, but he is unaware that she is seeing shards of her former life. They eventually reunite in the time of Destiny 2, but will it be too much to reunite with a former lover after such traumatic events? We know our guardians are reborn from the dead but how does it affect them and those around them? How would children cope with the idea that their guardian parent(s) don’t remember them? It’s these emotions and stories I think of when I make personal emotional pieces". I absolutely love the depth COSMICraven takes her work to, adding lore and life to each piece she creates its inspiring to so many in the community to give life as well as lore to the incredible pieces everyone creates.
Our community is fortunate to have such a talents and creative artist in our community, COSMICraven creates incredible pieces of art as well as adding so much depth to the characters she has created. Asking COSMICraven what medium in the future she would like to try while creating a piece and who in the community she would like to do a collaboration piece with she replied " Chibi definitely. I love the small cute style. It is a style I know I’ll struggle with because of the proportions and simplicity. I tend to do more of a semi-realistic style. But I’m up to the challenge!. Oh goodness so many people! Please bare with me with this list; Auraee_ii master of the lineart, PlainBen digital painting legend, the incredibly sweet and inspiring TheRavenMother, MVP ink artist KobOneArt, and the brilliant Clinton_Felker". COSMICraven is so welcoming and engaging she is a joy to speak with everyday in the community, she also streams her artwork on her Twitch channel at twitch.tv/cosmicraven and is so engaging with her viewers its a joy to tune in and share in the moments as she creates her beautiful pieces. Though right now here schedule is a bit up in the air, her goal for this year of 2018 is to find her groove with streaming and to be consistent so everyone can enjoy watching these pieces come to life.
