Our community has many talented and skilled Guardians in it, some of those Guardians are artists. Each week we at DTR (Destiny Tracker) will showcase some works of art created by some of our very talented artists in the Destiny community and get to know alittle about them. This week, our spotlight goes out to several Guardians from the community that came together to collaborate and create something truly special for everyone to enjoy. Each of these Guardians are well known in the community for creating incredible content for the community from truly amazing art pieces, custom destiny focused pins and items to podcasts that thousands enjoy each week. This project came about last summer in 2017 when Marksquare (*artist/gameist, and host of Grenades & Horseshoes*) came to JC Jesse host of Dad Tales Podcast with an idea of doing a series of Destiny inspired art pieces called the Vanguard Cinema Series, asking how this project first developed "*I asked Justin if he wanted to collab and he was like YES! And proceeded to have tons of ideas*" Marksquare replied. With the idea taking shape I asked how did they decide what direction to go with the series with cinema through all the different genres,JC Jesse responded saying " If memory serves we wanted to do something and we love pop culture and what’s cooler than 80’s movies".
Each piece selected in the Vanguard Cinema Series were chosen so well all of the characters fit perfectly in each cinema poster as if the characters were actually in the movie depicted in the poster. Viewing each of the pieces from this series, its easy to see how much enjoyment everyone had creating each one during the creative process developing each poster. " Justin has an encyclopedic knowledge of old television and movies... plus a great sense of ‘Dad humor’" Marksquare added about JC Jesse who is widely known to have a rich knowledge of pop culture and cinema from the 80s to today. Each piece in the series took roughly 4-5 hours from the planning phase to complete with Marksquare painting over the original cinema posters, changing parts first then repainting the whole poster to match. IndulgentHuman then took the newly created pieces and spent another 4-5 hours working the fontology of each piece to create the matching styled titles and added descriptions for all the pieces in the series. " He is an expert fontologist!. He makes all the the lettering look exactly like the original posters... only modified to say our silly messages" Marksquare speaking about IndulgentHumans brilliantly savvy knowledge of fontology, creating exact identical titles as the originals. Being so intrigued by the creative process these incredible community members went through for in this series I asked how did they decide which characters fit in the rolls or was half the fun suggesting characters for all sorts of different movie covers " *It started with thinking of movies to play puns off of and then just tossing around ideas. For a movie nerd and Destiny addict what’s funnier than Cayde and Zavala as Bill and Ted. That’s a movie I want to see lol*" JC Jesse replied mildly laughing reminiscing of the experiences they shared developing this series. These three pieces are the first set in the Vanguard Cinema Series, these truly talented and wonderful individuals have collaborated on. With more in the works in the future for this series they continue to collaborate on additions to this series. The positivity that is shared with collaborating with other community members can inspire many others to come together and create something special for others to enjoy around the community. It was truly an honor to shine a spotlight on these amazing community members with this incredible collaboration they created together, i'm grateful for a peak inside the creative process and enjoyment they each shared working on this project together. We all look forward to seeing more from the Vanguard Cinema Series as these Guardians continue to bring so much to the community each day.
