Bungie is set to nerf several over-tuned Crucible weapons—The Last Word, Lord of Wolves, and Izanagi's Burden—in Destiny 2's next season, likely titled Season of the Worthy.
Destiny Tracker has all the nerfs below, as well as what it will mean for the top-tier power-picks heading into the seasonal change.
Izanagi’s Burden
- The animation speed of Honed Edge is no longer affected by the reload stat.
- Outlaw has been replaced with No Distractions.
Izanagi’s Burden has had a solid place in the meta for many months now due to its ability to quickly take care of dangerous enemies in a single shot, and as a high DPS tool for dealing with Bosses. This capping of the Honed Edge reload speed means that Rally Barricade and Lunafaction Boots will have no effect.
This change is intended to lower the overall DPS as the weapon as the wielder will not be able to increase the reload time using certain methods but it seems like the reload canceling glitch will not be removed.
It seems odd to nerf the DPS capabilities of the weapon through lowering its reload speed but not touch the reload canceling glitch which is really what’s responsible for the weapon’s performance.
The Outlaw has also been replaced with No Distractions which drastically lowers incoming flinch over a few seconds of aiming.
This isn't a huge loss as Outlaw wasn't a huge performer on Izanagi’s Burden as Outlaw can only be activated on a precision kill and the weapon is mainly used against Bosses.
No Distractions could be most welcome as there is nothing worse than lining up an x4 Honed Edge shot on a Boss, only to be hit by an enemy and flinch enough to cause the shot to miss, resulting in a large loss of DPS and ammo.
The Last Word
- Fan Fire now adjusts the precision scalar while hip-firing.
- Fan Fire impact values have been adjusted.
- Precision Hip/ADS adjusted from 67.95/67.95 to 68.27/52.2.
- Non-Precision Hip/ADS adjusted from 50.01/50.01 to 38/38.
- Aiming down sights no longer provides additional effective range (damage falloff).
- Reduced stability for Mouse and Keyboard input.
- Reduced the effective range.
- To improve the experience, adjusted the way target acquisition is handled while hip-firing.
The Last Word has been a huge issue amongst the PC community as it is an extremely powerful weapon that is fairly easy to perform well with as it has a very forgiving Time to Kill when even just aiming for the body.
Bungie has decided to rework how the damage of The Last Word works when hip-firing or aiming down sights. Now, firing from the hip will do significantly less damage when hitting precision hits when compared to ADSing. The overall body shot damage has been lowered too with both hip-fire and ADS values seeing a large reduction. The weapons overall range has been reduced and its recoil has been increased for mouse and keyboard users.
To throw us a bone, it seems as if the aim assist when firing from the hip has been increased.
These changes will severely lower the viability of the weapon in PvP, perhaps to the point where it will be unusable. When firing while aiming down the sights, it will take an extra precision shot to kill a Guardian compared to now and the same can be said for body shots, whether hip firing or ADSing.
This will significantly raise the TTK for The Last Word. The weapon should still perform ‘ok’ if a player is able to consistently hit precision hits while hip firing but the gun will have zero room for error. It seems Bungie grew tired of having this weapon dominate the Crucible and decided to put it to rest.
Lord of Wolves
-
Release the Wolves now significantly reduces this weapon’s accuracy while active.
The Lord of Wolves has been a problem within the Crucible for some time now, ever since Bungie reworked the ‘Release the Wolves’ perk. There have been a couple of nerfs within the last few months but apparently it hasn't been enough.
This change will drastically lower the effectiveness of the weapon at the higher end of its effective range while Release the Wolves is active as the shots will be much less consistent on where they land.
This change could bring the weapon in line, it's difficult to judge without testing as its unclear how ‘significantly’ its accuracy is being reduced. It would be expected that the range at which the weapon can his consistent 1-burst kills will be brought forward a handful of meters.
Bungie is expected to drop another patch preview containing changes for Exotic armor, Supers, and Abilities in the coming weeks before the new season hits.
