Where is Xur and what is he selling? Destiny 2's Exotic Location, Weapon, Armor: January 31

Where is Xur in Destiny 2 today? The exotic and mysterious gear merchant, otherwise known as the Agent of the Nine, is ready to sell you some new exotic weapons and armor in exchange for your legendary shards.

This week, Xur can be found in Giant’s Scar on Io in a small cave to the far left of where the area is entered. Xur will remain here until the next weekly reset on Tuesday so be sure to catch him before he disappears.

This week Xur is selling the following:

Weapon - Fighting Lion

The Fighting Lion is a Grenade Launcher that sits in the Energy slot and deals Void damage. An unusual aspect of this weapon is that it uses primary ammo, unlike all other grenade launchers.

Its two main perks are:

  • Delayed Gratification - Grenade projectiles will bounce off surfaces. Hold LMB/RT/R2 to fire, and release to detonate.
  • Thin the Herd - Direct hits with this weapon do more damage to shielded enemy combatants. Rapid kills against grenade-damaged enemies will refill the magazine.

An Exotic Catalyst can also be earned for this weapon as a rare and random drop from killing PvE enemies. This catalyst requires kills and bounties completions to progress but once finished it grants +30 to Reload speed and the following extra perk:

Chimera - “After this weapon fires, equipped Kinetic and Power weapons gain a brief period of increased handling and precision damage”.

Fighting Lion is a really fun weapon that might not be top tier but can be very rewarding for those that wish to put in the effort to truly master the weapon. It can deal large amounts of area of effect damage to quickly take out low-level enemies while keeping its ammo reserves high with its Thin the Herd perk. Fighting Lion is also seen as a must-have weapon for anyone that wishes to complete both the Wendigo GL3 and Mountaintop Pinnacle quests as this weapon is a very easy way to farm Grenade Launcher kills for said quests.

Warlock Armor - Starfire Protocol

Starfire Protocol is an Exotic Chest piece that is used for the Solar subclasses.

Its Exotic perk reads:

  • Fusion Harness - Fusion Grenades have an additional charge and recharge from empowered weapon damage. Fusion grenade kills grant Rift energy.

If the player has the Solar Fusion Grenade equipped they will receive two charges of the grenade which will recharge if an enemy is damage from a source of empowered weapon damaged, mainly granted from the Warlock’s melee ability ‘Guiding Flame’. If the player kills an enemy with a Fusion Grenade they will be granted a small amount of Rift energy.

In most situations, this Exotic is not worth they Exotic slot as Fusion Grenades themselves are fairly sub-par but there is one loadout that it can really shine in. If the player takes on a more support build with the Well of Radiance subclass they now have two grenades that can be converted into a shield-granting pick up using the ‘Divine Protection’ perk. Very useful if a player is also trying to solo any harder content such as Nightfalls or Dungeons.

Hunter Armor - Lucky Pants

Lucky Pants are a piece of Exotic Leg armor that is exclusive to the Hunter subclass.

Its Exotic perk reads:

  • Illegally Modded Holster - Precision hits load on round to the chamber of stowed Hand Cannons. Hand Cannons ready faster and are more accurate immediately after swapping to them.

As you can see this Exotic is based around the use of Hand Cannons. It should be noted that it just says Precision hits are needed to load a round not Hand Cannon Precision hits so the player does not need to use Hand Cannons in both Kinetic and Energy slots.

The Lucky Pants are a relic from earlier in Destiny 2’s lifespan when many Special weapons today like Shotguns and Snipers were Power weapons so players would be using two primaries in their Kinetic and Energy slots.

Nowadays many players use a single primary weapon such as a Hand Cannon along with a Sniper or Shotgun so it can be very difficult to get consistent precision hits to load the extra rounds into the stowed Hand Cannon. It’s still possible to run a Scout Rifle with a stowed Hand Cannon to get those extra rounds but its not exactly a recommended loadout.

The extra ready speed and accuracy are certainly welcome but it’s not as much of a difference as you would expect for taking up an Exotic slot. This Exotic deserves a rework to bring it in line with the current Destiny sandbox, as it stands its a fairly worthless Exotic. If you are low on Legendary shards its best to skip buying this.

Titan Armor - Peregrine Greaves

The Peregrine Greaves are Exotic Leg Armor for the Titans.

The perk for this armor is:

  • Peregrine Strike - All shoulder charge abilities (Seismic Strike, Hammer Strike, or Shield Bash) deal bonus damage when activated in the air.

Peregrine Greaves has been highly sought after for some time until their recent nerf in mid-December of last year. Before this nerf the Greaves enhanced the damage of Shoulder Charge abilities by x6 if they were activated in the air until this multiplier was lowered to x3.

The Greaves could also originally be paired with a One-Two Punch Shotgun to reach ludicrous amounts of damage that led to Bungie disabling the Exotic for the World’s First race in Garden of Salvation.

However, this Exotic is still fairly strong as it allows the wearer to one-shot many Major enemies in an easy manner.
