Destiny 2’s annual Christmas and New Year's event ‘The Dawning’ is set to return on December 17 and will run until the same time on January 14. This event is free to all Destiny 2 players.
Eva Levante will return to the Tower and will bring with her a complete redecoration of the Guardian’s place of reprieve. Snow will cover all outside areas of the Tower with presents and candles also littering the Tower pathways.
It seems like not much has changed between this year’s Dawning and last years in terms of how players will participate in the event. Levante will reward players with a Dawning Oven at the start of the event which they will then use to combine different ingredients, rewarded from killing certain enemies and completing activities, to bake into the perfect treat. These treats can then be given to their favorite vendors around the Tower for various rewards.
Baking these tasty treats and gifting them to NPCs in the Tower will progress weekly and daily bounties. As a new addition over last year's event, these weekly bounties will now reward Bright Dust in the same capacity as current weekly bounties at 200 Bright Dust per completion. This is to ensure players can have a steady income of Bright Dust over the course of the event to be able to purchase the Eververse items they have their eyes on.
Speaking of Eververse, it wouldn't be a Destiny event without brand new items in the Eververse store. All these new Eververse items will be available for Bright Dust at some point over the course of the event with only the new finisher ‘Perfect Ten’ being a Silver-Only purchase. Here is a look at the new items:
Above we have a new armor set known as the ‘Northlight’ set as well as several interesting Ghost Shells, a polar bear Sparrow and what looks to be a Black Talon ornament. On top of this, there will be a myriad of emotes as well as a returning ship and sparrow.
A brand new weapon to grind for will also be present during the Dawning, the Cold Front Submachine Gun. Cold Front is an Aggressive Frame Submachine Gun that fires at 750RPM.
It has a similar look to the Year 1 Submachine Gun Antiope-D, but has similar stats to Hard Truths. Cold Front also comes with random rolls so be sure to grind for any of the barrel and magazine perks that increase range while looking for the optimal perks of Feeding Frenzy and Kill Clip.
Last year's Dawning weapon, the Machine Gun ‘Avalanche’, will also be present as a reward again for players who missed out on it last year or just didn't get the perfect perk roll they were after.
