As is tradition, a week before the start of the new Season Bungie has suddenly dropped a ton of information regarding a large slice of the content that is soon to be released. This includes everything from a synopsis of the Season’s storyline as well as a sneak peak at new Activities, Exotics, Armor and Weapons.
Story
The story of Season of the Worthy will again mostly revolve around the Cabal as they have formed a last ditch effort to finally take out Humanity using the Almighty.
For those of you who are a little fuzzy when it comes to the original Red War campaign, The Almighty was the massive Cabal superweapon that was designed to suck the fuel from nearby stars. This would cause the death of the star and destroy all life in the system.
The Cabal have disabled the main engines and have set it on a collision course with both the Last City and The Traveller itself with the Guardians currently having no way to stop it.
The only entity in the solar system with enough firepower to stop this glorified asteroid is Rasputin.
The Guardians must regain control of Rasputin’s mysterious Seraph Towers and communication Bunkers in order to arm the AI with weapons to either destroy the Almighty before it hits the Last City, or cause it to veer off course enough that it misses Earth altogether.
Activities
Seraph Towers - Not much is known about these Towers apart from the fact that it is the new public area event, similar in a way to Escalation Protocol.
In the trailer released a Guardian can be seen throwing some kind of energy into the center of the Tower, perhaps the activity will have a similar mechanic to the previous Forges?
This activity has big shoes to fill if it can be compared to both Escalation Protocol and the Forges.
Bunkers
These Bunkers will essentially act as Legendary Lost Sectors. It’s not clear whether these will actually be new Lost Sectors or just older ones that contain more difficult enemies, most likely the latter.
Bounties
Rasputin with offer Weekly bounties that can be completed for some XP, Glimmer and most likely some other form of reward such as the Season currency. These bounties will most likely have objectives such as ‘clear X waves of The Moon’s Seraph Tower’ or ‘Defeat Boss X within Bunker Y’, most likely nothing too strenuous.
Trials of Osiris
The much loved mode from Destiny 1 will be making its return in Destiny 2. Team up with 2 other Guardians to test your PvP skills in a high stakes game of Elimination. Win multiple games in a row to earn Pinnacle gear. Win 7 games in a row to earn additional rewards and gain access to the exclusive zone, The Lighthouse.
Features a whole new set of Armor and Weapons, many making their return from Destiny 1. Bungie has made this mode Free-to-Play so you won’t need the Season Pass in order to play. All players within the Fireteam must be at least 960 Power in order to compete.

New Items
Tommy’s Matchbook
This Auto Rifle is the new Season Exotic for Season of the Worthy, much like Eriana’s Vow was for Season of the Undying and Symmetry was for Season of Dawn.
One smart Guardian by the name of BingoFlex made a post on the Destiny 2 subreddit when they noticed that during the trailer, Tommy’s Matchbook was firing at approximately 900RPM by syncing the fire rate with the beat of the underlying music track.
This would make Tommy’s Matchbook the first super-fast firing Auto Rifle to be featured in Destiny 2. Judging by the name, and the small glimpse of gameplay in the trailer, expect this weapon to be dealing Solar damage.
The Fourth Horseman
A returning Exotic from Destiny 1, The Fourth Horseman is an extremely fast firing Solar Shotgun that features 4 barrels. The weapon had perks that would cause the last round to deal extra damage as well as returning shots to the magazine that caused a kill.
Expect this weapon to have undergone a semi-rework as the Final Round perk does not exist in Destiny 2. There is no information on how this Exotic will be acquired though as it is not featured on the Roadmap.
Seventh Seraph Armor
The new Seasonal Armor is known as the Seventh Seraph set and features a distinct Russian winter aesthetic, especially on the Hunter set.
Here is the base version that can be obtained by all players:
Here is Universal Armor ornaments of the Seventh Seraph set which requires the purchase of the Season Pass:
New Legendary Weapons
A set of at least 4 new Legendary Weapons will be added to Destiny 2, possibly being earned from the Seraph Towers, Bunkers or Rasputin’s Bounties. The set features an Auto Rifle, Machine Gun, Hand Cannon, and a Sidearm.
The usual Season Roadmap has also been released but this time Bungie has listened to community feedback and made it a little simpler as to not spoil some of the surprises hidden within the Season. Here it is:
There are a few surprising aspects of this roadmap. A new difficulty, coined ‘Grandmaster’, is being added to the Nightfall: The Ordeal playlist but it has yet to be revealed what the recommended Power Level will be. The current difficulties are 920 for Hero, 950 for Legend and 980 for Master.
The beginning of Season of Dawn saw a small increase of 10 Power Levels to the max with The Ordeal difficulties being raised to reflect that.
If Season of the Worthy sees a similar raise to the cap then we can expect the new Power Levels to be 930 for Hero, 960 for Legend and 990 for Master. There is a 30 Power Level difference between each of these 3 levels so it doesn't take much to draw a conclusion that Grandmaster will most likely be 1020 recommended Power Level.
This does seem extremely high though as even Master is beyond the max Power and so Guardians must rely on the bonus Artifact Power in order to reach the current recommended 980 Power Level. Perhaps Guardians will need to really grind some XP in order to raise the bonus Power granted from the Artifact in order to even attempt the new Grandmaster difficulty.
It seems a yet to be revealed event or activity is shown on the Roadmap known as ‘Guardian Games’.
This event seems to be a sort of community ‘Olympic Games’ for the 3 classes as they compete for prizes and renown. No word on what exactly the event will contain but could possibly be account-based where a player must pledge only one of their characters to the cause and complete objectives or bounties to raise the standing of their class.
That could see some backlash though as since the event contains new Legendary Armor players won’t like being locked out of earning the Armor for their other classes, but allowing players to compete across all 3 classes almost defeats the purpose.
Plus we know Hunters are going to win anyway as their total players eclipses both Warlock and Titans by a decent margin. Maybe Bungie has some trick up their sleeve to even it out.
