A Rewind On Destiny 2's Story 2020

A Lookback At The Highlights Of Destiny 2 2020

With the equivalent of almost four complete seasons under its’ belt, Destiny 2 in 2020 stood out as one of the most exciting times to be a Guardian. Let’s take a look back on everything that has happened this year.

Season of Dawn

Season of Dawn started at the end of December 2019, paving the way for how Destiny was going to be in 2020. With a major community puzzle and a large community event as well, Season of Dawn set the stage for the year 2020.

After fighting off the Vex in Season of the Undying, Osiris called on Guardians to stop the Cabal from manipulating time and undoing the Red War victory.

Activating the Sundial on Mercury allowed Guardians to prevent this ripple in time and go back to save the greatest Titan that ever lived, Saint-14.

The Corridors of Time were also created from this season, which ended up being a highly anticipated event as community members such as Gladd, Obkatiekat, and more rallied to fit pieces together with the Destiny community at large. This ultimately revealed our future death, where Saint-14 read a eulogy over our coffin.

As we closed out Season of Dawn, we were also faced with a large community event with the Empyrean Foundation. Weeks were spent investing and donating fractaline as the community rallied together and once completed we lit the light of the lighthouse on Mercury.

Season of the Worthy

Once the Cabal were brought to a full stop with the Sundial, one escaped Psion attempted a last-ditch effort at destroying humanity. Aboard the Cabal superweapon, The Almighty, the Psion rigged the craft to hurl straight towards the Tower and Last City.

Reuniting the Vanguard with Rasputin allowed for Guardians to complete Seraph Tower events across the Director to help bring Rasputin to full power.

Armed with a large community event, Guardians plugged away at the towers until they were let into a secret bunker and history Rasputin was hiding. Once revealing that Rasputin himself was the cause for the demise for his own son and the Iron Lords, the community was awarded an original Destiny favorite, Felwinters Lie.

This season also brought in two end game activities in Destiny 2. Grandmaster Nightfall Strikes for those looking for a substantial PVE challenge and the Trials of Osiris for those that want to prove their worth in the Crucible.

The season concluded with Rasputin reaching full power and destroying the Almighty in Destiny’s first-ever live event. Though the event took a bit longer than expected, it was a spectacular sight watching the Almighty be blown to shreds over the Tower.

Season of Arrivals

As always, one threat leads to another in the world of Destiny. With the Almighty finished and smoldering still on Earth, mysterious Pyramids began to appear all over the system.

It was ominous seeing something that had been teased since Year One of Destiny 2 finally all over the Director. And the Pyramids made their home at four iconic locations: Mercury, Io, Titan, and Mars. A sign of impending doom.

Season of Arrivals found the community in the hands of Drifter and Eris, as they worked together to find answers as to what we should expect, in different ways.

The dungeon Prophecy was added as a result of this exploration—a simulation made by The Nine to answer the question of Light and Dark.

In anticipation of the Pyramids’ influence, the Traveler began pulsing at the end of the Season. Thousands of Guardians flocked to the tower and watched as the Traveler finally healed itself from the damage of the Red War. As energy flowed across the social spaces, the brightest day in the Tower came to an end as the darkest days of Destiny were ahead.

Season of the Hunt / Beyond Light

Season of the Hunt was also the launch of Beyond Light, Year Four of Destiny 2.

All four planets with Pyramids disappeared and are no longer accessible or locatable. With Beyond Light, we were introduced to a new location, Europa.

The Darkness beckoned to us to reach them on Europa and when we arrived we were greeted by many old and new faces.

Variks, the leader of the revolt at the Prison of Elders that led to Cayde-6’s demise, has sent out a distress call that is found us. We are informed that Eramis is leading a coup of Fallen Houses and plans to use the new Darkness power, Stasis, to invade and seek revenge against the Traveler.

As Stasis quickly outpowers us in our first encounter with it and we flee to a Ziggurat where the Darkness once again invites us to commune.

This is where we are met with The Stranger, who explains she is from an alternate timeline where the Darkness has taken over the world. She then begins to aid us on our quest to defeat Eramis and offers to mentor us as we harness Darkness for the first time in Destiny.

We move against Eramis with our new powers and swiftly take down her and her forces. It is worth mentioning that at the end of Beyond Light, Eramis doesn’t fully die and remains frozen with her health left.

After completing the original story, we are lead to the Deep Stone Crypt, the birthplace of Exos, the latest Raid in Destiny. Here we find the remaing forces of Eramis as they are attempting to harness the same Darkness and technology Clovis Bray used to create Exo life.

Breaching the security gateways greets us with Atraks-1, the last standing lieutenant of Eramis, as she stands rebuilding Taniks in the crypt. Once Atraks-1 is defeated we confront Taniks above the space station Morning Star where he has attempted to activate the nuclear detonation sequence to blow up Europa.

Luckily the station is disarmed before it makes a full impact and ultimately crashes into Europa. Once emerged from the destruction, the Guardians destroy the Abomination Taniks and end Eramis’ legion.

The fallout of Morning Star’s crash leads us to our first encounter with the AI of Clovis Bray. With him, we learn that Banshee-44 is the Exo form of Clovis Bray and despite his distaste for the reveal, Banshee ultimately accepts it.

If that wasn’t enough story and lore for you, Season of the Hunt also brings back another familiar foe? friend? face?  Uldren Sov.

So he is no longer Uldren Sov; he was resurrected by Glint, his Ghost, and is now known as Crow. He has no memory of his past and therefore isnt really the person we should be mad at over Cayde’s death.

Crow is introduced as we find Osiris in trouble seeking revenge against Xivu Arath, the sister of Oryx. Osiris was hunting for answers when his Ghost, Sagira, was obliterated by Xivu’s forces. On the Moon we find Osiris on a destructive mission to get revenge or die trying.

Once we finally catch up to Osiris we find him belly up on the floor smacked down by a Hive Knight that Crow has to save him from.

We are brought to Spider, Crow’s boss, who reveals that he has offered sanctuary and shelter to Crow. He tells us that he kept him here a secret on the shore because he knew he would be killed on-site if any Guardian ever saw him. Oh, and Spider also rigged a bomb to his Ghost Glint to prevent him from “getting any ideas.”

As Season of the Hunt is still underway, we find ourselves currently hunting the forces of the Hive. We do know that Mara Sov plans to return to reality and what that means for the future of Crow and his past as Uldren time will only tell.
