In the latest ‘This Week at Bungie’ blog post, Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2’s core activities will each be getting a new set of armor in Season 12 for Guardians to earn. On top of this, a new Pursuit weapon will also be added to the game for the first time in many Seasons.
New Armor Sets
On November 10th, with the release of Beyond Light, each core playlist will receive a new set of armor for each class that will share unique geometry, decals and shaders. A couple of weeks ago it was said by Luke Smith, Game Director for Destiny 2, that these new armor sets for the core playlists would only be released once a year alongside the big expansions. So after Beyond Light releases don't expect anything new for a while.
Our first look at the new armor is above.
To earn this armor, the player will need to complete matches of the relevant activities and also through vendor rank ups. Bungie has stated that the Weekly Challenges associated with each activity are being updated to offer ways for players to earn high-stat versions of these new armor sets.
A new Pursuit weapon will be coming to Destiny 2 with the release of Beyond Light. For those of you unfamiliar with Pursuit weapons, these are unique weapons that have a static perk roll that has been curated by Bungie to create a weapon that is, usually, quite powerful in its intended role. These Pursuit weapons require a good amount of time investment in the associated activity in order to obtain.
Here is our first good look at the new Pursuit weapon coming in soon:
The name of this new Sniper Rifle is not mentioned at all in the TWAB but the above image on the Bungie.net website is titled ‘Adored_Base’. This weapon does share the same model with the Season of Opulence Sniper Rifle ‘Beloved’ so it seems likely that ‘Adored’ could indeed be this Pursuit weapon’s name.
Bungie has chosen to take a different approach with obtaining Adored compared to previous Pursuit weapons.
“Our goal is to have a pursuit weapon available per Season, earned through a focused quest. Banshee will give you a choice between Strikes, Crucible, or Gambit to earn the base model. Make sure you take a moment to think about how you want to earn the weapon, as you'll be locked in to specific objectives for whichever activity you pick. “ says Bungie Community Manager Dylan ‘dmg04’ Gaffner.
In addition, once this main questline has been completed the player will be able to head to Zavala, Shaxx and the Drifter in order to grab secondary questlines. These questlines will reward the player with weapon ornaments for Adored themed around each activity. Don't worry about whichever one you choose first locking you out of the other two, all three are able to be acquired. Here is a quick look at the ornaments:
