The Solstice of Heroes event is in full swing and Guardians are busy completing Solstice armor objectives across the Solar System.
Unlike last year it seems there is a system in place to give a player’s alternate characters a boost to objective completion in order to make the grind less harsh.
At first this was simply thought to be a bug by the community as many members were seeing inconsistent progress across their other characters, an example being boosted progress on one character but not another.
Players reached out to Bungie to try to get a concrete answer on the matter.
Bungie Community Manager Dylan ‘dmg04’ Gaffner replied the following on Twitter to Destiny Youtuber ‘Mtashed’: “Doesn't sound right. We've seen some reports that progress from objectives is taking a moment to catch up, so this could be a hiccup on the server. Will check with the team to verify in the AM.”
Gaffner then followed up some hours later with some clarification on the assumed bug.
“Re: Doubled progress on alt characters, checked with the team… [they said] that’s correct. Obtaining the final legendary armor set (magnificent) on a class will add +1x to the other classes on an account finishing the rare (renewed) and legendary tier 1 (majestic) armor objectives,” he explained.
“So 2x once one class has obtained the final armor set and 3x once two classes have obtained the final armor set. Will definitely call out in the TWAB for wider visibility.”
So it turns out this extra progression is 100% intended by Bungie and is a nice way to ensure players with multiple characters are able to unlock all the armor without signing their life away for the next month.
To make sure this boost works properly be sure to progress up to the final armor objectives, like Trials wins, Nightmare Hunts and Dungeon completions, before switching to another character.
However, many members of the community are reporting that completing a character's blue set of Solstice armor will give the increased progression to the blue set on other characters.
This goes directly against the above tweet by Bungie as according to them the increased progression does not kick in until the final set of objectives has been reached.
In any case just be sure to check the armor objective progress every now and then to ensure the increased progression is in effect.
Unfortunately it seems that Titans have copped the short end of the stick and the extra progress seems to not activate on this class.
If a player completes the armor objectives on their Titan first the additional +1x progress will not carry over onto Hunter or Warlock.
This bug has been confirmed by Bungie Community Manager Chris ‘Comzo23’ Shannon on the Destiny subreddit and Bungie is currently looking to deploy a fix as soon as they can.
Until this is fixed though it is a good idea to simply focus on the Warlock and Hunter classes.
