Customizing your Guardian has always been one of the biggest backbones to the Destiny 2 experience. Afterall, nothing says “god-slayer” like a fully decked out drip machine covered head to toe in Jacarina.
As Destiny 2 has evolved it has seen phenomenal armor sets brought to the the game such as the Moonfang-X7 Suit, Tangled Web, and Anti-Extinction Suit. Because of the rate at which new Armor sets are added to the game, players quickly lose out on their favorite looks as armor is thrown aside for either a better stat roll or to raise their light level.
The best way previously to combat this was the Armor Ornament System that was added to allow players to purchase Ornament sets from Eververse for either Bright Dust or Silver. However, this was only limited to a few unique sets a season.
But after teasing Transmog late last year, Bungie has finally unveiled how Transmog will work starting in Season 14.
Here is the quick breakdown of how to Transmog your gear:
- Defeat enemies to earn Synthstrand.
- Spend Synthstrand on bounties (Vanguard, Gambit, Crucible, Destinations and Raids/Dungeons) to earn Synthcord.
- Convert Synthcord at the Loom in the Tower into Synthweave.
- Use Synthweave to convert an unlocked armor appearance (Legendary quality or lower) from Collections into a Universal Armor Ornament.
To start this loop, players will need to earn 150 Synthstrand by defeating enemies. Once enough Synstrand is collected, Ada-1 will allow you to acquire a class-specific bounty which will award Synthcord when completed.
These bounties have been set to allow players to play whatever activities they like to ensure they can earn the Synthcord they need, similar to how the Guardian Game contender cards are this year for medals.
A Vanguard bounty for example may require a player to accumulate points in Nightfall Strikes while a Crucible bounty will require zone captures in Control.
If you pick up the wrong bounty or change your mind on what activity you want to grind, you will be able to abandon the bounty and receive a partial refund on Synthstrands.
As of now, Bungie is limiting how many Synthweaves a player may earn per class per Season to ten. This means that a player will be able to turn ten unique pieces of gear into Universal Ornaments a season. For the introduction of Armor Synthesis next season Bungie will be increasing this to twenty however.
For players looking to quickly expand their collection, Bungie will be allowing players to purchase additional Sytheweaves for 300 Silver each or in bundles of five for 1000 Silver.
Exotics will not be able to be given any Universal Ornaments as Bungie wants to ensure Guardians will know what their teammates and opponents are wearing and what perks they may have at a quick glance.
Certain Year One sets will also not be able to be turned into Universal Ornaments at launch as the team has encountered difficulties. Bungie hopes to address these sets in a later season:
- Year-1 Armor Ornaments
- Vanguard
- Crucible
- Iron Banner
- Faction Rallies
- Prestige Raids
- Trials of the Nine
2018 and 2019 Solstice of Heroes Armor will also not show any glows if put through the Armor Sythesis system. Bungie has not stated if this will be addressed in a future season or not.
With Armor Synthesis taking effect in just a few short weeks, Bungie will also be overhauling the Shader System to no longer be an inventory management nightmare.
Players will now be able to apply shaders directly from collections for 500 Glimmer each. Bungie will also be adding an “apply to all” button that will cost a total of 2500 Glimmer, Legendary Shards will no longer be needed to purchase shaders.
Because Shaders will no longer need to be hoarded in stacks and cost Legendary Shards, the amount they cost when purchased from Eververse will be increasing from 40 Bright Dust to 300 Bright Dust.
