One of Destiny’s features that have always seemed a little off to me was how you ranked up in playlist activities. I always expected the rank ups in Crucible and such to be a bit more meaningful than they have been.
A usual “rank grind” in Crucible is currently just a journey to win enough matches to reach a 2000 point Valor score. When you reach the top of the table, you then reset and are awarded a few random pieces of equipment.
A grind like this has never been well received by the community and in fact, leads to Crucible burnout for many. Luckily starting in Season 13, that is all going to change.
With the launch of Season 13, you will now be able to view what rewards are next on your list by visiting vendors at the tower. Starting with Crucible and Gambit with Vanguard Strikes transitioning this way in a future season.
The best part of this system happens when you reset your rank. Once reset, all cosmetic rewards are replaced with Enhancement Cores and Prisms, and the Ascendant Shards is swapped to an exotic engram.
Here is the full breakdown from Bungie on what to expect:
- Rank 4: 3x Upgrade Modules
- Rank 7: 3x Enhancement Cores
- Rank 10: Seasonal Ritual Shader (changes to 3x Enhancement Cores after resetting your rank)
- Rank 13: 2x Enhancement Prisms
- Rank 16: Seasonal Ritual Emblem (changes to 2x Enhancement Prisms after resetting your rank)
- Reset Reward: Ascendant Shard (changes to Exotic Engram after resetting your rank)
I do feel this will bring about a breath of fresh air to these playlists and give players much better control over the resource economy.
With this new process taking effect, Bungie has also decided to eliminate Crucible Tokens from the game with Season 13. Make sure to visit Shaxx before the end of Season 12 to dump them all before they become a pile of junk in your inventory.
