Bungie has stated multiple times that the Witch Queen expansion should be considered their biggest and most ambitious expansion in recent years. If this recent ViDoc is any indication, they might just be right.
The trailer is 14 minutes of Destiny glory as it showcases new weapons, locations, missions, exotics and more that we have to look forward to on February 22nd. As the trailer opens we see Savathun building her armada and showing off her abilities and might. Massive ships, the Lucent Brood, and even massive worms rise up and set the stage for what this trailer is truly about, the Guardians and how unprepared we really are for the biggest fight of our lives.
Bungie explains that this fight isn't going to just be bad versus good or Light versus Darkness. There are many shots in the ViDoc that show this will be a complex fight not everyone is capable of. There will be complex puzzles to solve, intense battles against Hive Guardians and mysteries that need unraveled by what Bungie describes as "psychic detectives."
This will be the first time the seasonal story will also line up well with the overarching DLC story. Season of the Risen will debut with the Witch Queen expansion and will put us in talks with Empress Caiatl as we seek her help in taking down Savathun's forces that have come knocking on our doorstep.
The ViDoc also gives us plenty of footage of the new Glaives and the weapon crafting system which are huge talking points for this upcoming season. The menu for crafting seems to almost mirror the experience of leveling and unlocking perks on weapons when Destiny first launched in 2017.
Glaives seem to be highly effective weapons for mid range battles and are promised to offer ways in and out of fights that weren't possible until their addition. My favorite example is being able to use the Glaive as a shield to get in a tight spot for a resurrection of a teammate safely.
For the rest of our arsenal, Bungie is looking to add eight new Exotic weapons and six pieces of armor. The only new exotic the trailer shows that we haven't seen already is "Devour Boots" for Warlocks that allow for you to turn your empowering rifts into devour rifts that will siphon life from your enemies as you deal damage to them.
Void 3.0 is also shown in the trailer and we get our first sneak peak at a fully fleshed out interface for what that will be, though Bungie is keeping a lot of the aspects a secret for now. Arc and Solar are still slated to receive this revamp treatment later this year with Solar being focused around healing friends and burning foes while Arc will be geared towards chaining damage and doing quick attacks.
As of now there are not any further details on the Raid or Dungeon coming with the Witch Queen expansion but this trailer is still filled with a lot for us to think about as we quickly approach the Witch Queen release on February 22nd.
