Today Microsoft released the biggest change to Xbox Live in years, games that are free-to-play will no longer require an Xbox Live subscription to access the multiplayer aspects of the game. This brings about a huge change to Destiny 2 on Xbox where up until today it was required to have an Xbox Live membership to access elements of Destiny 2 such as Crucible or Gambit.
This morning the Xbox Twitter account tweeted “Free-to-play now means free-to-play” and with Destiny 2’s base game being free since 2019, Xbox players will now be able to complete and play a majority of Destiny’s content before they ever hit their first paywall.
It is no doubt Destiny has seen a massive new player increase since the game went free-to-play in 2019 and as the game has evolved Bungie has continued adding more content for those players that want to keep the cost down as much as possible.
Trials of Osiris, Nightfall Strikes, Iron Banner, and Seasonal Events such as Guardian Games are all content players will now be able to access for free entirely on Xbox.
However, it is worth noting that specific features such as Raids, Stasis Abilities, Middle Tree Light Class Abilities, and Story Content will still require the purchase of their respective expansions.
