Destiny 2's Guardian Games Returns With Balanced Changes And New Rewards

Will the Hunters reclaim their former glory?

Bungie has just debuted our first official look at the newly revamped Guardian Games event with a divisive new trailer and a stunning webpage.

Set to go from April 20 to May 9, the Guardian Games is returning for its second year after Titans won last year in what Zavala describes as a “blow out”. Though this victory has been up for debate by the community after Hunters dominated by a landslide for the first day and were on track to continue domination until Bungie released a patch to make their Medals worth less due to there being more active Hunter players in the game than any other class.

With this being a new year and Bungie having time to learn from the last launch of the Guardian Games, this year’s event is already shaping up to be a strong seasonal activity.

For starters, how you will earn Medals has been altered to be less of a grind and more of an extra activity you can complete alongside your daily activities. This year, you will pick up Contender Cards and Triumphs from Eva Levante to earn Medals to deposit. These Contender Cards will require Laurels that will drop during PVE activies or upon completion of PVP activities such as Crucible or Gambit. Unlike last year, Laurels will not drop on the ground during Crucible or Gambit game modes.

Another refreshing change to Guardian Games is that there will be a weekly winner ceremony to help keep the competition on track and showcase which Class performed the best for the week.

No competition in Destiny would be complete if there wasn’t any loot up for grabs, and this year Bungie has beefed up what will be possible to bring home.

Players that did not earn the Heir Apparent Exotic Machine Gun previously will now have another chance to add it to their collection. You will also be able to earn the Catalyst for Heir Apparent that increases the arc shield's durability and partially reloads the magazine if it is destroyed.

An Exotic Sparrow, Legendary class item, two emblems, and a pair of shaders will also be up for grabs as in-game rewards. Bungie will also be adding an exclusive Track Jacket and a Commemorative Pin for the winning Class to the Bungie Store in the final weekend Closing Ceremony.
