The Destiny 2 community has finally received another sneak peek into the new Stasis subclasses coming with the release of Beyond Light.
This new look at the subclasses fueled by the Darkness comes straight from a new trailer and information page that dropped during the Gamescom gaming convention opening night showcase.
Along with the trailer, which can be viewed here, a Google Dropbox for the Bungie Marketing Team has been making its way around social media which contains some interesting B-roll footage and some amazing looking screenshots.
It is this trailer combined with the B-roll gameplay that has given us our first coherent look at Stasis and how many of the abilities will function.
Stasis
The Stasis subclasses themselves seem to revolve heavily around immobilising effects such as slows and stuns due to their icy nature. Once an enemy is frozen using one ability, it seems that by following up with another ability, or even just shooting the enemies, will create a chain reaction of ice shard explosions.
Several of the grenades from these subclasses are able to create ice pillars which can be used as both cover and as a way to reach higher vantage points.
Since these new subclasses could end up having a good amount of utility from the crowd control effects, it's likely that the damage from these Stasis abilities will be somewhat lacking when compared to the Void, Solar and Arc abilities we currently have. After all, it would be somewhat overpowered if the new Stasis grenades do a similar amount of damage to the grenades we have now while also slowing and freezing enemies.
Warlock Shadebinder - Fracture with Frost
The new Warlock subclass is the one we know the least about as almost no gameplay was featured in the B-roll footage linked above. Luckily the Bungie Stasis page reveals that new information regarding the Warlock Shadebinder subclass will be coming in just a few days on September 1st.
The only clue we currently have to go on is the tagline for the subclass being ‘Fracture with Frost’. This could mean that the Warlock subclass could lean more heavily into the freezing and shattering theme of the Stasis subclasses.
In the gameplay trailer linked above, even the Warlock Rift is able to freeze enemies close enough when the ability is cast.
Titan Behemoth - Crash like an Avalanche
The new Stasis Super for Titan is known as ‘Glacial Quake’. This Super has a powerful slam attack that creates ice pillars in a forward line that freezes and damages enemies. This slam can then be following up with a devastating right hook that shatters all frozen enemies it hits.
While in the Super the Titan also has the buff ‘Crystalline Plating’ which is likely to be some kind of damage reduction.
Interestingly, during the Glacial Quake use it can be seen that the Titan is actually generating Orbs of Power and not the usual Orbs of Light. This is likely to be a simple name change as since the Stasis subclasses are tapping into the Darkness, it would be a little odd for the abilities to be creating Orbs of Light.
Hunter Revenant - Bring the Storm
The new Stasis Super for the Hunter is known as ‘Silence and Squall’. During this Super, the Hunter equipes two kama, a sickle-like weapon, and throws them at enemies, one after the other.
The first kama that lands freezes all enemies caught in its area of effect while the second kama detonates in a large, damaging explosion which shatters all frozen enemies.
The second kama also generates a vicious ice storm that takes care of any enemies foolish enough to still be standing after the initial explosion.
The Hunter also comes equipped with a Stasis shuriken as a melee ability, similar to the Solar Throwing Knife.
This shuriken is able to rebound off hard surfaces several times and will cause large damage if it strikes an enemy that is already frozen.
In one clip from the B-roll gameplay a new Hunter grenade is used in a Crucible match. This grenade creates a dome of extreme cold that will freeze enemies caught inside in a matter of seconds.
The above Stasis shuriken is then used in conjunction with this grenade to quickly dispatch multiple enemy Guardians. This grenade does seem to freeze enemies extremely quickly which does raise some concerns over how frustrating this will be in a PvP match.
From the Bungie Stasis information page it appears we will be getting a more detailed deep-dive on these new subclasses every few days with Warlocks on September 1, Titans on September 3 and Hunters on September 8. Be sure to check back then to get the rundown.
