‘Eyes of Tomorrow’ to receive damage & drop rate bug fixes in an upcoming patch

Update 3.1.1.1 to finally fix low drop chance for raid Exotic ‘Eyes of Tomorrow’.

Since Beyond Light released many Guardians have been grinding away at the new Deep Stone Crypt raid for a shot at obtaining the new Exotic Rocket Launcher ‘Eyes of Tomorrow’. While raid weapons are supposed to have an escalating drop chance based on the number of clears, players soon discovered that many had completed the raid 30 or 40 times without the Exotic dropping.

Based on player feedback Bungie did some digging into this matter and in the latest ‘This Week at Bungie’ blog post they announced that a bug had been discovered with the drop chance.

The escalating drop chance mentioned above is known as ‘bad luck protection’ and is a way for the game to reward players who put in the time and effort when grinding for certain pieces of gear. Many players assumed, with good reason, that running Deep Stone Crypt on all three characters each week would add three ‘stacks’ of this bad luck protection in regards to Eyes of Tomorrow.

According to Bungie, this is where the bug has occurred. Instead of adding a stack of bad luck protection per character completion, it was only adding a single stack per account. Essentially the stacks of bad luck protection were account-based instead of character-based.

The good news is that Bungie has developed a fix for this bug which will deploy in Update 3.1.1.1 on March 23rd. The TWAB itself does state the update will be on March 30 but Bungie Community Manager Chris ‘Cozmo’ Shannon quickly tweeted out that this was an error and the update would instead be releasing on March 23.

As an added bonus, this bug fix will retroactively add in more stacks of bad luck protection to your account for Eyes of Tomorrow for all the stacks you missed out on from extra character completions. This means if you have completed a large number of runs of Deep Stone Crypt on multiple characters without receiving Eyes of Tomorrow, you will find your bad luck protection effectively tripled.

Another issue that was addressed during the TWAB was the undocumented nerf to Eyes of Tomorrow’s damage against bosses. When Update 3.1.0 was released at the start of Season of the Chosen players quickly discovered that Eyes of Tomorrow had much lower damage when compared to other Rocket Launchers.

Turns out this was another simple bug that Bungie found after doing some digging. According to Bungie, a modifier had incorrectly been placed on the weapon that was reducing its damage to minibosses, the same minibosses that many members of the community would do their damage tests on. Bungie states that they have double-checked this bug and that it is currently only affecting minibosses, raid bosses should still be taking the correct damage.

The fix to both Eyes of Tomorrow’s low drop chance and low damage will go live in Update 3.1.1.1 on March 23. Here is a quick summary of the other changes coming with this same update:

  • Fixed an issue that prevented Scan and Heroic VIP patrols from appearing on Europa.
  • Fixed an issue where the Frozen in Time ornament couldn’t be equipped to No Time to Explain.
  • Fixed an issue that caused Eyes of Tomorrow to do less damage than intended against yellow bar enemies.
  • Many changes to Stasis which can be viewed here
