Festival of the Lost returns in 2020: Destiny’s Halloween celebrations

Destiny 2’s annual Halloween event, known as Festival of the Lost, is just around the corner.

Destiny 2’s annual Halloween event, known as Festival of the Lost, is just around the corner. Starting on the weekly reset of October 6 Guardians will be able to honor the lives lost during the year by donning silly masks and collecting delicious candy. The event will run for almost a whole month and will conclude on November 6.

Eva Levante has returned to lead the holiday celebrations and has helped in fully decorating the Tower with a spooky assortment of candles, cobwebs and pumpkins.

Activities

The Haunted Forest will return this year as the event’s main activity for Guardians to participate in. This activity is a ghostly version of the Infinite Forest where a Fireteam of three Guardians must race against the clock through procedurally generated levels filled to the brim with enemies.

At the end of each level is a boss that must be killed before the Fireteam can proceed to the next level. Once the timer runs out, the Fireteam is transported to a special location where they are rewarded with loot based on their efforts.

Bungie has stated that this year the end loot room will feature five rewards chest for five times the loot over previous years.

The Haunted Forest will be accessed a little differently this year. Guardians will now need to head to The Spider in The Tangled Shore in order to acquire some Cipher Decoders which will be used to unlock the chests at the end of the Haunted Forest. These Cipher Decoders will drop from all activities across the solar system, similar to regular engrams, but be aware that only 25 can be carried at once.

Loot

It wouldn't be a Destiny 2 event without interesting loot to chase.

Two Auto Rifles, BrayTech WereWolf and Horror Story, will be returning from previous years with new perk combinations. Be sure to be on the lookout from these unique weapons dropping from the chests in The Haunted Forest.

Festival of the Lost’s irreverent masks will also be returning. These masks act as a tongue-in-cheek celebration of the battles won and the lives lost over the course of Destiny 2. Be sure to be wearing these masks while running through the Haunted Forest as these masks come with special, powerful perks that are only active in this activity. Candy and Chocolate Strange Coins, which are used to purchase rewards from Levante, will also only be earned if a mask is worn.

A couple of new masks will also be making their debut in this year’s event while many favourites will also be returning. Be aware that some of these masks will earnable through Festival of the Lost activities while some will only be able to be purchased with Silver or Bright Dust of the Eververse store.

The Eververse store will also be seeing all new items for purchase for both Silver and Bright Dust. This includes masks, emotes, sparrows and a brand new armor set for each class.

Three new Triumphs will also become available during the event that each come with a unique cosmetic reward. Once each Triumph is completed, the player will be able to trade in the candy they have earned during the event for a special mummified Sparrow, Ship and Ghost Shell.

An exclusive emblem will also become available for redemption on the Bungie Rewards page once the opening quest for Festival of the Lost is completed.

The Festival of the Lost is expected to run from October 6 until November 3 so grab those masks and head into the Haunted Forest to earn some spooky loot.
