A new set of combat mods akin to Charged with Light and Warmind Cells have been released with Season of the Chosen. These are known as ‘Elemental Well’ mods.
How They Work
When one of these Elemental Mods are equipped on a piece of armor, the player is able to spawn small Elemental Wells by doing different things. One mod generates an elemental well on grenade kills, another on Super kills, and another with regular weapon kills. A lot of these mods rely heavily on having matching element types between subclass and weapon type for the effects to happen or to be granted bonus effects.
All of these mods also have a generic effect. This reads: “Picking up an elemental well grants energy to your ability with the lowest current energy. Picking up an elemental well whose element matches your subclass damage type grants energy to all of your abilities.”
Here is a quick list of the 6 Elemental Well mods:
- Elemental Armaments - Weapons takedowns with a damage type that matches your subclass element have an escalating chance to spawn an elemental well.
- Elemental Charge - Become Charged with Light by picking up an elemental well. If the elemental well's element type matches your subclass element, you gain 2 stacks of Charged with Light.
- Elemental Light - Defeating a combatant with your Super spawns an elemental well that matches your subclass energy type.
- Elemental Ordnance - Defeating a combatant with a grenade spawns an elemental well that matches your subclass energy type. (Note: Multikills seem to only create one well per grenade)
- Font of Might - Picking up an elemental well that matches your subclass energy type grants a temporary bonus to weapon damage of that same elemental type.
- Font of Wisdom - Picking up an elemental well that matches your subclass energy type grants you a temporary significant increase in your Intellect, improving the recharge rate of your Super.
For these mods to function properly you need to have a mod equipped that generates these Wells and another that gives an effect when an Elemental Well is picked up. As an example, a player can equip the new Ticuu’s Divination Exotic Bow with top-tree Dawnblade. They can then slot Elemental Armaments into their helmet to generate Elemental Wells with Ticuu’s Divination and Font of Might into their gauntlets to gain a damage boost when picking up these Elemental Wells.
There are a few possible interactions with these new mods that are worth keeping in mind. The popular mod ‘Reactive Pulse’, which emits a burst of Arc energy around the player if they take damage while Charged with light, actually counts as a grenade kill. This means Reactive Pulse could pair quite nicely with the Elemental Ordnance mod.
The weapon perk Osmosis is something to keep an eye out for too. This perk changes the weapon’s damage type to that of the player’s subclass when a grenade ability is used. This will allow the player to take advantage of the Elemental Armaments mod without having to worry about choosing a certain weapon that matches their subclass. The player can then pair this Armaments mod with either Font of Wisdom or Font of Might or great bonuses.
How to Get Them
These Elemental mods can be purchased from the H.E.L.M War Table for three mod components each. At the writing of this article the only two mods available are Elemental Charge and Elemental Ordnance. At the moment though it's unclear whether the available mods will be on a simple weekly rotation or if more will be unlocked as the player advances in War Table reputation ranks.
In any case, be sure to check the War Table regularly and complete certain Seasonal Challenges to level up in reputation, time will tell.
