During the latest weekly reset a new trailer for Season 14 of Destiny 2 went live alongside an information page on Bungie.net. These not only revealed the official name of the upcoming Season, Season of the Splicer, but also gave a rundown on everything to expect during the 3 months the Season will be running for.
One of the most important new systems coming in Season of the Splicer is ‘Armor Synthesis’ which will allow Guardians to fully customize their appearance by creating Universal Ornaments with a new material known as ‘Synthweave’. With these Universal Ornaments a Guardian can then create the perfect look, all while keeping their armor stats and mods the same. This is a feature that players have been asking for since the beginning of the franchise and Bungie has finally delivered.
In a recent ‘This Week at Bungie’ blog post, the community was given a brief overview of Armor Synthesis and some further details were shown in the trailer and on the webpage.
From this newer and older information we can somewhat determine the complete set of steps that will need to be taken in order for a player to start earning the new Synthweave material to create their Universal Ornaments with:
*Note that since this is an early guide, the actual quest steps and material costs cannot be fully determined. This guide will be updated once Season of the Splicer goes live on May 11.
- Unlock the Loom - Ada-1 has the skill to create Synthweave but lacks the necessary equipment. Travel to Europa to unlock the secrets of the BrayTech facility and use these secrets to create Synthweave. This is likely to be a fairly simple starting quest to begin players on their journey of Armor Synthesis.
- Defeat Enemies - By killing enemies during their regular activities, players will receive random drops of Synthstrand.
- Complete Bounties - Players can purchase new bounties from Ada-1 using the Synthstrand they have obtained. These bounties include objectives such as “Capture zones in Crucible Control matches.” or “Complete playlists strikes using specific subclasses.” Completing these bounties will award Synthcord.
- Use the Loom - Travel to the newly unlocked Loom in the Tower to convert this Synthcord into Synthweave.
- Create a Universal Ornament - This Synthweave is able to be used on a piece of armor to create a Universal Ornament.
Once the Synthweave has been used to create a Universal Ornament, the player can then go into the new Appearance Customization tab and select a piece of currently worn armor to see a list of all the Universal Ornaments available. Simply hover over the piece you want to slot in, select, and that's it.
You have now changed the appearance of that armor piece to the appearance of the Universal Ornament, all while keeping the original armor stats and mods.
