Season 13 Title changes give Guardians more way to show off Destiny 2 achievements

Are these new gilded Titles worth grinding for?

Titles have long been Destiny 2’s more engaging and rewarding goals that players can work towards over a Season. According to the latest ‘This Week at Bungie’ blog post, Bungie believes there are ways to improve this system to allow players even more ways to show off their skill and time invested in the game.

“We liked the idea of reengaging with Titles Season over Season, but we don't like the challenge and time commitment of doing the entire thing every Season.” says the members of the Bungie Triumphs Design Team. This led to the team coming up with a list of goals that they wanted to adhere to when coming up with the new system:

  • Allow players to show off their engagement with the core rituals season over Season.
  • Preserve the value of earning the base Title.
  • Decrease the amount of grind required Season over Season for players that want to earn them all.

It was with these above goals in mind that Bungie has created a way to ‘gild’ certain Titles, which will become available in Season 13. During a Season, a player is able to complete a series of additional Triumphs that will gild a Title that they have completed the base version of, giving the following extra benefits:

  • A new border around the Seal in the Triumphs UI.
  • A pip tracking how many times in your career that you've gilded a given Title.
  • A new color and symbol for the Title over your head.

So far, this only applies to a select few Titles though, the ones acquired through the core playlists:

  • Dredgen - Gambit
  • Conqueror - Nightfalls
  • Unbroken - Crucible
  • Flawless - Trials of Osiris

This gilding of a Title only lasts the Season, however. Once a Season is over the Title will revert to its base purple appearance and the optional objectives will also reset. Bungie states that these objectives could even change to suit the unique style of the current Season.

What hasn’t been made totally clear by Bungie is if the pip representing the number of times a Title has been gilded will be visible to other players. If this is not the case then this is a missed opportunity by Bungie. The gilding resets each Season so it would be a great idea to allow players to show off how committed they are to a certain activity Season to Season. Without this pip being visible then there is no visual difference from the outside between a player who has gilded Dredgen across four Seasons and a player who has only gilded Dredgen in the current Season. Sure, the player themselves will know what they have achieved but this feeling is lessened when you aren’t able to show this to the players around you.

Grandmaster Nightfalls only become available late in the Season so the gilding for this Title will only last a couple of weeks before it is reset. In this case, how much the gilding is worth doing weighs heavily on whether the number of gildings can be seen by other players.

What do you thinking of the new gilding system? Bungie is asking for feedback on this so be sure to leave a comment below or as a reply on Twitter.

These changes go live on February 9 when the new Season, rumored to be called Season of the Chosen, is set to begin.
