Five Things You Might Have Missed In The Destiny 2 Witch Queen Trailer

Bungie released what is presumably the last look we will get at The Witch Queen expansion before it drops later this month. With a series of present moments stitched with vivid flashbacks or visions, this trailer is packed with plenty of lore and hints of what's to come.

Creation Of The Hive

We have two shots of the Hive planet Fundament that show what we can believe is the eclosion of Oryx, Xivu Arath, and Savathun. The first shot seems to be two of them towering out of the water while the second shot is presumably the Worm Gods that would make the lifelong pact to morph the sisters into the Hive gods they would become.

There were originally five Worm Gods on Fundament when Savathun (at the time Sathona) and her sisters stumbled upon them and took on their new forms so with only three being in this shot it makes me wonder if these are the exact three that morphed the sisters.

The Traveler On Fundament

This is an interesting shot during the time we see Savathun holding the worm familiar, as the camera pans we get a glimpse of the Traveler on Foundation. This is no doubt who Savathun refers to as an "old friend that she has chased for a long time." This chase was touched on in the Book Of Sorrow where we were able to read about the Hive trying to control the Traveler and killing millions in the process.

Fun fact, the Hive referred to the Traveler as a "bait star" because they saw it a as blinding light of lives similar to the likes of Stormjoys on Foundation. Stormjoys were creatures that would fly over areas and drop tentacles with lights called "bait stars" that were meant to lure in the Hive since they were attracted to light. Once hooked the Stormjoys would eat the Hive; a common practice of older Hive wishing to die would be to seek these "bright stars" out.

A New Raid Look

This looks to be the start of the Pyramid Raid we are expecting with the Witch Queen. This is a gorgeous shot of the wrecked Pyramid on Savathun's throne world and features a wide opening that we haven't seen on a Pyramid ship before.

Also if you look closely the Warlock in the middle seems to be holding a lightsaber while the Hunter two characters down seem to have a Mysterio-styled globe on their head. Originally I tried to convince myself that the "lightsaber" is Worldline Zero but with all of the ornaments we currently have there is no way to get Worldline to look like that.

While I am not completely sure, a lot of the fight scenes with the Scorn seem to take place in architecture that is consistent with that of the Pyramids. This may be the first Raid in Destiny to have Scorn as the main enemy.

Worms Are Everywhere

If you look long enough you are likely to find more worms than you thought in this trailer. Savathun has one, Zavala has one and there even looks to be some in the Pyramid on display.

The worm in Zavala's office appears to be the same one from the final mission of Season of the Lost, it makes me wonder how it got there when the last time we saw it it was in Mara Sov's care.

The worms in the Pyramid setting can certainly mean the Darkness has been experimenting or growing Hive with Darkness powers. This is all purely speculation, but it would be cool to see Hive emerge with Stasis powers as well as the Light.

The Final Fight

The final fight towards the end of the trailer shows a fireteam going head to head with Savathun's Lucent Brood. If you pay attention you will notice each Guardian goes toe to toe with a Hive that has its exact power. This moment gave me the same kind of chills when I watched Avenger's End Game and got me more excited than ever to jump in and start fighting down Savathun's Light-infused forces.
