For a time, weapon catalysts were one of the most important end-game features in Destiny 2. After a public outcry that weapons were not changeable in Bungie's second entry into the franchise, developers released the randomly-dropped loot boosts to permanently change an exotic weapons stats. Adding to that, missions had to be completed before the catalysts would activate, creating a fun little side quest if you wanted to beef up your central weapons.

With the release of the Forsaken expansion, however, weapon catalysts were thrown on the back-burner and kind of just left there for a while. With Bungie stepping away from the weapon upgrade equipment half-ruled by RNG, players began to step away too. If catalysts weren't going to be a focus, why push yourself to the limits to get them?

Well, if some recently revealed information data-mined out of the PC version of Destiny is to be believed - and considering the release of the Outbreak Perfected all but confirms it - it looks like catalysts are set for their mid-season comeback in a big way.

Destiny database website developer Light.gg's Eander revealed that he and his colleagues had broken into the core files of the title on its computer release, and found a new batch of exotic catalysts just waiting to be released into the game, including upgrades for the recently nerfed Lord of Wolves, and the difficult to collect One Thousand Voices.

The nine new catalysts, complete with stats, are as follows:

  • Black Talon: Magazine +40
  • Cerberus +1: Stability +20, Reload Speed -30
  • Lord of Wolves: Magazine +40
  • Malfeasance: Range +20
  • One Thousand Voices: Stability +30, Ammo Capacity +20
  • The Queenbreaker: Range +20, Aim Assist +20
  • Trinity Ghoul: Charge Time -30
  • Two-Tailed Fox: Reload Speed -30, Ammo Capacity +10
  • Wavesplitter: Range +10, Ammo Capacity +30

Alongside these nine catalysts that have had their stats confirmed in the data-mine, there were another eleven exotic weapons that had the catalyst-bonuses confirmed, but without digital numbers being attached.

These include popular weapons like The Last Word, Thunderlord, and Thorn. It also includes Ace of Spades, Wish-Ender, Arbalest, The Chaperone, Le Monarque, Izanagi’s Burden, Anarchy, and Jotunn. It is yet to be confirmed if these eleven are as legitimate as the first bundle, but it's likely these 20 weapons are all set for eventual catalyst releases.

Do you think these catalysts are dropping to the game soon, potentially in the Season of Opulence? Are there any other guns that need catalysts added to increase their viability?
