Bungie has taken the opportunity to make some changes to various Exotic Armors alongside the release of Season of the Worthy.
These changes are not a series or straight buffs or nerfs but a mixture of the two to try to balance out a few of the underperforming Exotics while also attempting to reign in some of the more powerful ones. One certain Exotic Armor piece for the Warlock has even seen a complete redesign on its Exotic perk.
Here is the list of changes for the Titan class:
Ashen Wake
- Killing an enemy with a Fusion Grenade while wearing this Exotic now refunds grenade energy. The amount of grenade energy refunded scales based on the tier of enemy killed.
This is a straight buff to Ashen Wake as it simply adds grenade regeneration to the current perk set of improving Fusion Grenades to explode on impact and travel faster. The main issue with this Exotic that this buff doesn't fix is that Fusion Grenades simply aren't that worthwhile when compared to other Titan Solar grenades such as the Thermite Grenade.
It seems likely that the perk will stack if multiple enemies are killed with a single grenade but it just depends how much grenade energy is refunded. If a Fusion Grenade is thrown into a group of Thrall and kills 4 of them to fully recharge grenade energy then its possible Ashen Wake could be half decent.
It also has the added benefit of the energy refund scaling based on the tier of enemy that was killed much like Assassin’s Cowl so who knows, maybe a Major kill will fully refund grenade energy?
Anteus Wards
- The shield created during a slide no longer allows chip damage through.
Doomfang Pauldrons
- Fixed a bug where Doomfang Pauldrons would sometimes grant Super energy from melee kills while in your Super.
Dunemarchers
- Increase the radius of the static charge to 20 meters, up from 12.
This is certainly a nice change as it allows for enhanced clearing of enemies from a greater distance. This doesn't fix the fairly mediocre damage that the Arc charge does though as it will still really only kill low tier enemies like Thrall, Dregs or Psions and continue to not even take down the shields of enemy Guardians.
Although previously when an enemy was killed with Shoulder Charge and another was 15 meters away it wouldn't be hit by the static charge but now it will. That’s certainly something to appreciate.
Mk. 44 Stand Asides
- Reduced the delay from the start of sprinting until the overshield comes in to 0.5 seconds, down from 1.25.
While this change might be a straight buff with no downsides to it, it's not enough to really affect the overall power of the Exotic.
The time to activate the protective shield while sprinting has been lowered by over half to 0.5 seconds from 1.25 seconds but you have to ask yourself “How many times would I have been likely to die during that 0.75-second difference between the two times?”.
The answer is fairly irregularly so yes this doesn't improve the Exotic that much.
One-Eyed Mask
- The target marking from this Exotic has been replaced with target highlighting, eliminating the ability to detect targets through walls.
- No longer provides a damage bonus when defeating your marked target.
- Restored the previous overshield granted by defeating your marked target, which now has a duration of 6 seconds, down from 8.
One-Eyed Mask has undergone numerous changes since its release as Bungie is struggling to really find a balance with the Exotic. The previously taken away Overshield when defeating an enemy has returned albeit with a lower duration.
What the community regarded as the largest issue with the Exotic, the target marking allowing tracking through walls, has been replaced with target highlighting which simply adds a bright red outline to the enemy that damaged you.
This red outline does not persist through walls and is only enabled when there is a direct line of sight to the target.
Severance Enclosure
- The explosion now triggers on powered melee (both against combatants and Guardians) and finishers.
- The radius and damage of the explosion created by this Exotic increases based on the tier of the enemy defeated.
Severance Enclosure was severely under-tuned when it released in Season of Dawn and it is great that Bungie is making changes to it so soon after its release. As with Assassin’s Cowl, this Exotic’s perk can now be activated by both powered melee abilities and finishers.
This drastically improves the amount of situations Severance Enclosure can be useful in as there are many ways to increase the uptime on melee abilities such as mods and the weapon Monte Carlo. The damage of the explosion isn't being straight increased which is a shame as it is fairly lackluster.
The damage and range will scale with the tier of enemy killed so be sure to prioritize Majors.
