Bungie has taken the opportunity to make some changes to various Exotic Armors alongside the release of Season of the Worthy.
These changes are not a series or straight buffs or nerfs but a mixture of the two to try to balance out a few of the underperforming Exotics while also attempting to reign in some of the more powerful ones. One certain Exotic Armor piece for the Warlock has even seen a complete redesign on its Exotic perk.
Here is the list of changes for the Hunter class:
Assassin’s Cowl
- The invisibility and healing effect now triggers on powered melee (both against combatants and Guardians) and finishers.
- The duration of the invisibility granted by this Exotic increases based on the tier of the enemy defeated.
- Arc Staff kills no longer activate this perk.
So a simple change is that a powered melee ability will now activate the perk but an interesting question is whether a kill with Smoke Bomb or Throwing Knife will activate the perk as it is technically a powered melee ability. Gaining health regeneration and invisibility from a decent range could be a very powerful ability. Combine this with a weapon like Monte Carlo which gives massively increased uptime on melee abilities and possibly a few melee mods could make this change to Assassin’s Cowl very powerful.
Currently, the invisibility when killing an enemy with a finisher lasts approximately 5 seconds but this is being changed. As the wording of the change says ‘increases’ it can be assumed that the current 5 seconds will become the base for activating the perk on a Minor enemy and will possibly scale up to 8, 9, or 10 seconds when killing higher tier enemies.
FROST-EE5
- Changed the ability regeneration so that it no longer stacks multiplicatively with other class ability energy-generating perks.
A simple enough change. Now FROST-EE5 will simply have a base increase of ability regeneration while sprinting that will not stack with other perks.
Khepri’s Sting
- All smoke bombs deal 150% damage while wearing this Exotic.
At the present time Smoke Bombs don't exactly deal a ton of damage so even though an increase of 50% damage may seem like a big amount, it really isn't. Khepri's Sting is still a very strong Exotic though in PvP as throwing a Smoke Bomb at your feet will show the location of enemies, even through walls.
'Wall Hacks' like this ability are always deadly in the hands of a skilled player and this Exotic just got a free buff to its damage. Watch out for Khepri's Sting in the soon to return Trials of Osiris.
Orpheus Rig
- The maximum amount of Super you can regain from this Exotic with a single use of Shadowshot is 50%.
This one is a pretty major change. Currently, a Guardian is able to fully regenerate their Super when using Shadowshot in conjunction with Orpheus Rigs if a large amount of enemies are tethered. This is extremely powerful in end-game activities such as Master Nightfalls and Raids as it ensures the team can have an on demand suppression and damage buff at every major enemy encounter.
This Super regeneration has been changed so that only a maximum of 50% of Shadowshot energy can be acquired through Orpheus Rigs when tethering numerous enemies. This Exotic should still be viable as if the Fireteam’s Supers are rotated correctly to create Orbs and Masterworked weapons are used, the Nightstalker should still get their Super back fairly quickly, just not instantly.
Young Ahamkara’s Spine
- Increases the explosion radius for Tripmines by 14%.
This is nothing game-changing but still nice for Hunters as this will give a small amount of forgiveness to Tripmines and might cause a handful of extra kills every few games than normal.
