illPhysics is a Destiny Streamer for Tracker Pro; In our latest entry of Tracker Pro Interviews, we dive into who Tony is and what separates them from the rest. We hope that you will find the same interest in our Pros as we have and consider checking out their content!
Tell us about yourself, who are you and what do you do?
Hi everyone, my name is illPhysics aka Tony. I am a full-time content creator on Twitch. I mainly play Destiny 2, but dabble quite often in other games of interest. Lately, we have also been playing Horizon: Zero Dawn, Fall Guys, and Jackbox Party. By trade, I am also a Biomedical Engineer.
How and why did you get into content creation?
I am an extrovert and a social gamer by nature. I began streaming Destiny 2 as an extension of my Discord community; I could not game with everyone, so at least this way we could all hang out together while gaming. Just as friendships and community blossomed from my Discord, so did they from Twitch.
Tell us about your community
My motto is “In the business of building quality communities.” That it is and filled with the most quality of individuals from a wide and varied spectrum of backgrounds and perspectives. I continue to work hard to ensure it is inclusive and respectful of our differences, while also highlighting the ways in which we share common ground.
It is a space where we listen (first), speak, and exchange on any life subject without succumbing to tribalism, bullying, or personal attacks. I am deeply invested in advocating for marginalized communities and it is important to me that I use my platform to do so in a meaningful manner.
Leadership sets the tone and I always want to set an example of authenticity, acceptance, humility, support and intellectual curiosity.
What do you enjoy most about Destiny?
First, I am a PvP main for almost 5 years now and the multiplayer experience in Destiny 2 is unlike any other while also being one of the best shooter experiences available. In particular, the fantastic movement, class design, and gunplay stand out among a crowded genre. No matter the criticisms, the caliber of the game play experience in PvP is undoubtedly top tier and has stood the test of time.
Second, the Destiny 2 community is the best gaming community I’ve ever been a part of. I’ve found a good portion of my community through our shared competitive nature and desire for excellence in our gameplay. The Community Customs I’ve run for years have provided me the opportunity to engage, give back, and share my experience with fledgling guardians while making new friends along the way!
What is your favorite PvP map in Destiny 2?
JAVELIN. It is relatively symmetrical. It is the perfect close-to-mid range map that promotes a balance between primary and special weapon play. It has dedicated lanes while also providing plenty of cover, elevated platforms, close-quarters/choke points, detailed, yet clean map features, limited environmental features that impede movement/verticality, multiple routes for rotations, and good spawn protection elements.
What advice would you give someone looking to get into content creation?
Slow and steady wins the race.
Always keep learning your craft and slowly increasing the quality of your content.
We all have days where we are insecure about the appeal of our content. It’s important to enjoy what you do, seek validation primarily in the feedback from your community members, and always stay true and authentic to who you are.
Diversify the platforms on which you distribute your content.
Network to make friends, not stepping-stones.
There will always be folks along the way that will try to bring you down. Mute them and stay focused on the work and your community.
With greater platform comes greater responsibility.
Always seek ways to set yourself apart from the pack, whether it be by finding a content niche, elevating industry standard quality, and/or highlighting a unique personal quality or background.
Authentically connect with your audience/community where you have the energy and especially when they reach out.
Shoot your shot and don’t be afraid to reach out to someone bigger than you for advice or support. We miss 100% of the shots we don’t take, but always be well-prepared when you do.
Always be prepared and ready when someone bigger surprises you with exposure.
Pay attention to what works. Double down on what works, and thin out the rest.
Learn to be financially savvy.
If there was one thing you could tell your former, aspiring-creator self, what would it be?
Keep going. Don’t stop.
In your opinion, what does it take to make a team successful?
Team members who are dedicated to personal growth and excellence, but Leadership will always set the tone. These are the expectations by which my clan, Phantoms7, is defined and we have been going strong for 5 years now! (Shout out to the folks who have held me down before anyone else!)
Going forward, what do you want to accomplish with your team?
Personal excellence and success for every team member fueled by the support we show for each other every day. I want us all to eat and ensure that our success is neither at the expense of others nor an isolated occurrence.
Where can we find you on social media?
